VISION:

To make the Dean Hall a community focal point of Dean and district.

MISSION:

To facilitate the use of a well-equipped community Hall.

VALUES:

The Committee of Management of the Dean Hall & Mechanics Insititute values:
* the work of past Hall Founders, Trustees, Committees, groups and individuals
* the historic nature of the Hall as a focal point of Dean for 115 years
* decision making with respect to the Hall's history
* the setting of the Hall in a country atmosphere
* the Hall as a centre for community participation, celebration and interaction
* a co-operative community spirit, diversity and ideas from all sources
* a sense of pride in achieving progress by working together
* group participation in the maintenance of the Hall and its surroundings
* safety of, and ease of access by all to the facilites
* potential for continued use and sustainable development of the Hall
* use of the facility for a diversity of purposes
* the environment and resources of the area
* an active democratic, efficient and effective decision-making process

BACKGROUND:

The Committee of Managment of the Dean Hall & Mechanics Institute:
* envisages a need for flexibility and diversity in order to promote the Hall as a venue where the community can continue to have functions, evoking a sense of civic pride
* welcomes new and varied uses of the Hall as society changes
* anticipates the need to review regulations and standards in order to support the heritage and character of the Hall, whilst modernising its amenities
* recognises the need for promotion of Hall activities in the media
* aims to preserve and beautify the Hall's surroundings
* will undertake regular goal-setting, evaluation of needs and outcomes of actions
* aims to achieve high standards of leadership

MANAGEMENT PLAN:

The Committee of Management of the Dean Hall & Mechanics Institute aims to:
* conduct bi-monthly Committee meetings at the Hall
* organise at least three major functions or events each year
* publish "The Dean and District News" quarterly, incorporating color
* conduct at least bi-monthly maintenance and gardening working bees
* fundraise for upkeep of the Hall and its facilities
* collect historical records, photos, plaques and other memorabilia for Dean and district
* produce a history of the Dean Hall and oral history of older Dean and district residents
* advertise events and promote the Hall in the media at least bi-monthly
* seek new Members from the community
* restore the building whilst maintaining its heritage character inside and out
* provide facilites to allow easy access for all
* protect the environment and heritage overlays
* undertake beautification of the Hall surroundings
* employ a caretaker
* increase participation through a news team and events team
* seek financial and in-kind support to assist with the Hall improvements
* produce, and regularly maintain, a web page
* promote volunteerism in the community
* act as a networking centre for Dean and district
* return any profit to the Hall
* to make the Hall a place where people feel welcome
* encourage and facilitate Hall use for various activities


EVALUATION CRITERIA 2004 TO 2010

The success of the Dean Hall & Mechanics Institute may be measured by
an increase in:
* Hall Membership
* the use of the Hall for social activities, events and meetings
* publicity for the Hall
* volunteers assisting at Working Bees at the Hall
* feedback to "The Dean & District News"
* advertising in "The Dean & District News"
* support for the Hall Committee
* financial and in-kind support
* improvements to the building and surroundings of the Hall
